Abraham brothers are White Oak champs

A new pair of brothers will represent Dominica in the regional White Oak Rum Domino Pairs competition for $10,000 to be staged in Grenada in September.

The brothers, Kurt and Roger Abraham of Grand Fond's Baghdad are the new national pairs' champions after conquering the pair of Michael David and David Samuel at the 16-pairs play-off at the Mahaut Community Centre on Saturday August 17, 2013.

The Abrahams won best of five sets 3-1 (6-2, 6-4, 5-6, 6-1).

In the semi-finals the Abrahams took care of Rickey Toussaint and Eyan Roberts 3-1 with David and Samuel eliminating Africa Actneal and Clement Darroux 3-2.

Kurt and Roger received as their local prize $500, a case of White Oak Rum and trophies, but the real prize is the opportunity to compete for $10,000 in Grenada.

Samuel and David got $300 and some White Oak.

Last year's regional and local champions, Leonard and Anselm St Bernard of Tremors, Grand Bay had to withdraw from the finals through illness to one.

Meanwhile, the Digicel knock out competition was down to the last four as The SUN went to press. The match ups in the semi-finals were Rockers of Paix Bouche up against Non-Players of Castle Bruce at Marigot's Kool Breeze Bar and Public Enemies taking on Mount Zion in Goodwill. In keenly contested quarter finals matches, scores were: Rockers 4,015 Focus of Woodford Hill 3,208; Mount Zion 4,013 Golden Arms of Soufriere 3,675; Non-Players 4,016 Home Boys of Tarish pit 3,756; and Public Enemies 4,010 Tremors 3,897.
