Dublanc Back at Top of Intermediate Cricket
Overseas duties by some of their young blasters, like Gian Benjamin, and other issues for Marinor Blasters played into the hands of Dublanc cricket team who won their first Augustus Gregoire Intermediate Cricket League championship sponsored by Fort Young Hotel for the first time since 2007.
Dublanc brushed aside the defending champions by eight wickets at the Windsor Sports Stadium. Blasters deputy captain won the toss under far from ideal conditions and chose to bat first. That decision proved most unfortunate as Blasters fell in a whimper for 77 runs in 27.5 overs. The captain Reginald Darroux was the only player to reach double figures with 11. R Shillingford captured four for 18 off seven overs, Vincent Casimir 3-12 and Chad Bertrand 2-9. Dublanc made a mockery of the chase with 81 for two in reply. Deon Brewster got 27, Vincent Casimir 24 and Robert Gabriel 23.
Dublanc went into that final under some cloud after the losing semi-finalist, Starlights, one day before at the Botanical Gardens protested the result claiming that Dublanc had fielded ineligible players.
Starlights managed a paltry 50 in 19.1 off their 2 overs John Roach scoring 23. For Dublanc, Chad Bertrand took 3-5, Vincent Casimir 2-9, Clinton Pierre Louis 4 and Fitz Frederick 2-16. Dublanc then sauntered to 51-3 in 11.4 overs with Vincent Casimir again in the thick of the action with 25 runs.
