Entrepreneurs delight in earning extra income at Ti Vilaj Kwéyòl

One local entrepreneur shared with The Sun that during her three-day stint at the Ti Vilaj Kwéyòl, she raked in revenue equivalent to what her small crochet company typically makes in an entire month. It's no wonder that she was part of the over half of the vendors present at the event who advocated for it to become a quarterly occurrence.

The event, now in its second year, provided a platform for over 60 micro and small businesses to exhibit their talents, skills, and products. The three-day extravaganza, held from October 24 to 26 at the Botanic Gardens, ran from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and formed a significant part of the 2023 independence season festivities.

This year's event again allocated booths to the micro and small businesses, including agro-processors, food vendors, artisans, and florists. It featured an array of cultural performances both on stage and on the ground, with local bands and DJs providing an exciting soundscape. Creole fashion, agricultural food displays, food courts featuring local delicacies, and a children's playground added to the vibrant atmosphere.

Natasha, a highly skilled artisan known for her exquisite, handcrafted goods, couldn't contain her excitement. She said, "Ti Vilaj Kweyol has allowed me to share my cultural heritage through my crafts. It's not just about selling products; it's about preserving and showcasing our traditions. Hosting this event more frequently could significantly enhance recognition for local entrepreneurs like myself."

Another dedicated entrepreneur specializing in eco-friendly products said, "Being part of Ti Vilaj Kwéyòl has allowed me to showcase my sustainable, locally sourced goods. The interest and support we receive here are truly heartwarming. Having this event at least every three months would not only support local businesses but also raise awareness about eco-friendly options among our people."

According to the authorities, the primary objective of this event is to create a lively venue for showcasing Dominica's cultural traditions, encompassing art, fashion, dance, music, food, beverages, products, and agriculture.

It also seeks to provide a space for residents and visitors to come together and recreate during the day. Equally important is its mission to promote small businesses, entrepreneurship, quality, sustainability, and the rich taste of Dominica to all who attend.
