Homosexual Behavior
All matters of faith and conduct must be evaluated on the basis of scripture, which is an infallible guide "2 Timothy 3:16 -17". Since the bible speaks on the subject of homosexuality it is very imperative that the church of Christ correctly understand and articulates the truth on this important contemporary issue. The bible says in the book of "2 Timothy 4:3" for the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear.
Homosexual behavior is a sin because it is disobedient to scriptural teaching. It is important to note when God called Israel to be His people in a distinctive sense, he miraculously delivered them from Egyptian bondage but God did even more for he entered into a covenant relationship with them and provided the law. Predicated in love for God and neighbor by which they could order their lives as a holy people. The law included specific prohibitions of homosexual practice. Leviticus 18:22 says do not lie with a man as one lies with a woman, for that is detestable. Leviticus 20:13 says if a man lies with a man as one lies with a woman both of them have done what is detestable.
Detestable used in both verses is a strong word which indicated divine displeasure with sin. It must be noted in Paul's days the city of Corinth was especially notorious for sexual immorality. It was not only a crossroad of commerce but of all kinds of vice, but because the church was established in this city it was important that new Christians come to understand God's moral order. Paul wrote Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit God's kingdom. He continues to say do not be deceived, neither the sexual immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders will enter the kingdom of God. In "1Timothy 1:6-10" the law is not made for a righteous man but those who are lawless and rebellious, for the ungodly for the profane. For those who kill their mothers and fathers for immoral men and homosexuals. God created order for the family and human relationship.
Genesis 1:27 God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him male and female. God said man must not be alone so he created a companion for him; "Genesis 2:18". It must be noted that the males' awareness was not to be reminded by the creation of another male but by the creation of a female. God created two sexes not just one and each for the other. When people choose to engage in homosexuality their unnatural sexual behavior is a sin against God, who established the order of sexuality and the social unit they seek to establish as contrary to the divine instruction for the man to leave his mother and father and be united to his wife. Read Romans 1:27 / Genesis 2:24
Homosexual Behavior Must Come Under Divine Judgment
The name of the ancient city of Sodom became a synonym for homosexual behavior. The homosexuals of Sodom were so depraved that they threatened homosexual rape of Lot's guests. They said bring the men who came to you so we can have sex with them. The biblical record indicates that they became so violent and tried to break down the door of Lots house but thank God for divine intervention. God destroyed both Sodom and Gomorrah. Read "Genesis 19:4 verses 11, 24 – 25". The bible makes it clear that practicing homosexuals along with sexual immoral heterosexuals and all other unrepentant sinner will not inherit the kingdom of God. Paul also described homosexual conduct as one evidence of God's judgment for human kind's corporate rebellion against Him (God) 1 Corinthians 6:9-10 / Romans1: 26 – 27.
Reconciliation is Possible for the Homosexual
2 Corinthians 5:17–21 while the bible makes it clear that homosexual behavior is a sin and comes under the judgment of God it also indicates that those who are guilty of such behavior and any other sin can be reconciled with God . It is of fundamental importance that individuals who struggle with homosexual behavior seek help. Those of us in Leadership in the Church such as Pastors, Priest, Worship Leaders, Government personnel's, to name a few, lets seek not to bring down a nation but to help it grow. Righteousness exalts a nation but sin is a reproach to any people "Proverbs 14:34".
