Labour wins 15, UWP six
Dominica's ruling Dominica Labour Party (DLP) has won the 2014 general election, winning 15 of the 21 seats up for grabs.
DLP has won Laplaine, Morne Jaune, Salybia, Colihaut, Vielle Case, Paix Bouche, Portsmouth, St. Joseph, Mahaut, Petite Savanne, Cottage, Roseau Valley, Castle Bruce and Soufriere. That is three few fewer seats than the party won in 2009.
The opposition United Workers Party (UWP) won Roseau North, Roseau Central, Roseau South, Wesley, Marigot and Salisbury; three more seats than the party won in 2009.
In his victory speech, Skerrit said he was "humbled by the overwhelming response of the electorate".
He said there would be no holiday tomorrow.
"I believe the country has out-feted itself over the past six weeks", he said.
UWP political leader Lennox Linton said "rather than being rejected" the DLP "has been embraced" in spite of the party's widespread flouting of the election code.
