New wheels for two disabled

It was all smiles for disabled four-year-old Hamez Philbert and double amputee Roy Thomas as they received their new set of wheels.

Through collaboration with the Dominica Council On Ageing (DCOA), the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) donated the wheelchair to the young student of the f Ĺ Ètoile du Matin Préscolaire (The Morning Star Preschool), who was unable to speak but expressed his gratitude through his beaming smile.

Thanking the team on behalf of her son, his mother, Malenka Tavernier said that his new source of mobility will be put to good use.

Also forming part of the day's donation was a fully automatic wheelchair to the double-amputee of 11 years.

Through tears, Thomas, who is a resident of the Dominica Grotto Home for the Homeless said: "I feel happy, I am confident that I will be able to move about more easily, this is a dream come true."

The day's donation from the humanitarian church which arrived in Dominica following Hurricane Maria did not end here as the DCOA, CHANCES, the Grotto Home for the elderly, the Dominica Infirmary and the Dominica State Prison were also presented with barrels of pampers and an assortment of food items.

Speaking during the handing over ceremony Pastor of the RCCG Dominica Longinus Ohaegbu, said that their organization which was established in 1962, establishes churches

The RCCG, whose headquarters is located on the top floor of Patty Shack in Roseau, currently has a branch in Grand Bay, Portsmouth and recently opened another in Wesley and hopes to have another established in Laplaine by September.
