No new ECCB Governor yet

The process of selecting a new Governor of the Eastern Caribbean Central Bank (ECCB) to replace the retiring Sir Dwight Venner is continuing, according to a report from WinnFm of St.Kitts /Nevis.

Quoting Anguilla Chief Minister and ECCB Council chairman Victor Banks the radio station said the process has not been completed.

"That process we are going through now will probably be completed by the second week in December," Banks told WinnFm. "As a matter of fact no candidate or applicant has (yet) agreed to serve as Governor of the Central Bank."

This is contrary to a Sun newspaper story published last week that indicated that the St. Lucian economist Dr. Higinus Gene Leon had been selected to replace Sir Dwight.

Quoting a source close to the ECCB, the Sun newspaper reported that Dr. Leon was among a number of persons who were interviewed for the post.

The Sun reported that Dominican Dr. Valda Henry, the financial secretary of Grenada and member of the ECCB Board of Directors, Timothy Antoine were persons on a short list of potential candidates. But Banks told WinnFm that he could not confirm the information because it was confidential.

Correction: Victor Banks is Anguilla's Chief Minister and not Monserrat's Chief Minister as the Sun story incorrectly stated. And the name of the other candidate on the short list is Timothy Antoine and not Timothy Harris.
