Skerrit gets Honorary Degree from Indian University
Lovely Professional University of India has conferred the Doctor of Letters degree on Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit for "his dynamism, farsightedness and his being innovative leader," the University said in a press statement.
"This honour is also in recognition of his sincere desire to build international harmony among nations and for his outstanding public services and excellent governance," the statement said.
The release said Skerrit chaired the 6th Convocation of Lovely Professional University, today. The convocation was held at Shanti Devi Mittal Auditorium of the university where Skerrit honoured gold medallists and toppers of various LPU academic programs of 2015 batch. In all, 7810 regular, distance education and part-time students of 2015 batch received degrees and diplomas.
PM Skerrit was accompanied by high profiled delegation including Cabinet Secretary Steve Ferrol, the release said.
Inspiring the gathering of graduating students, PM Skerrit said: "Believe in yourself, your remarkable country and the Creator. Step out with great force to face the world on positive notes; you, too, can become the PM, CEO or a leading global entrepreneur. By your great doings you, too, can encourage and motivate the young generation next to you," the release said quoting Skerrit.

"Continuing he said, "Geometrical boundaries should not be challenges for us. The honour which I have received here, I dedicate the same to youth of both the countries India and Dominica for their diligence and hard work, and urge them to create and navigate a new globalized world."
The press release said LPU, a part of Lovely International Trust, is the largest university in India in terms of number of students on a single campus. LPU has more than 30,000 fulltime students on its 600 acre campus which is located on Jalandhar-Delhi National Highway at Phagwara (Punjab), India.
The University campus has many architecturally striking buildings with all the requisite facilities for the students available therein. More than 18,000 students reside in 6 boys' and 6 girls' hostels on the campus. The University has a rich diversity in its students' population, with students coming from all the 29 states of India and 35+ countries including the USA, China, Colombia, Thailand, Ghana, Sri Lanka, Mauritius, Maldives, Nepal, Bhutan, Mongolia, Indonesia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Cameroon, Tanzania, Nigeria, Congo, Rwanda and more. In addition to regular students on its campus, more than 1,00,000 students are pursuing distance education programmes, the release said.
