The passing of Douglas Sang Hue, former Test Umpire

The news of the passing of former Test Umpire Jamaican Douglas Sang Hue was received with sadness by members of the Dominica Cricket Association, especially those who knew him.

Regarded as a world class umpire in the Seventies, Sang Hue enjoyed a very successful umpiring career, and I am certain that the entire West Indies umpiring fraternity will mourn his passing.

On his retirement, he served for many years as Chairman of the Training and Examination Committee of the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association until he was replaced by Clive Comberbath of Trinidad and Tobago. I happened to have been a member of his committee with Gladstone Critchlaw of Guyana, Lloyd Barker of Barbados and Pat Whyte of Antigua.

I was indeed proud to have stood with him in two Shell Shield matches - one in St. Lucia and the other in Dominica - and at no time did he treat me as anybody less than himself. A frank and often amusing man, with many friends in the umpiring circles, to him umpiring comes first.

The executive and members of the Dominica Cricket Umpires Association extend deepest sympathy to the Jamaica Cricket Umpires Association on the passing of Douglas Sung Hue. Mr. Billy Doctrove, Executive Vice President of the West Indies Cricket Umpires Association will attend the funeral. Sang Hue will always be remembered.
