Victims of Mozambican plane crash taken back to Maputo

MAPUTO, April 21 (Xinhua/Sun) -- Fourteen of the 16 Mozambicans who died in last November's plane crash in Namibia were taken back to Maputo on Monday.

The Chief Executive Officer of Mozambian Airlines, Marlene Manave, said the Namibian authorities have identified the body of the Chinese citizen who died in the accident, and he will be cremated in Namibia at his family's request.

The company acknowledged that the task of identifying bodies was difficult and time consuming, adding that the last two victims are still under identification in Namibia.

"We want to say thank you to the diplomatic missions from Brazil, Angola, China, France, Portugal in Mozambique and their respective governments for their support in the identification of the families, in sending experts to identify dead bodies to the repatriation to their homeland," Manave said.

Flight TM470 en route to Angola crashed in northeast Namibia in November 29, killing 27 passengers and six crew members on board, including one Chinese citizen. Investigations showed that the pilot deliberately brought the plane down.
