West Indies lose First Test in Australia by an innings and 212 runs
HOBART, Tasmania – In one of its worst defeat in Australia, the West Indies cricket team lost the opening Test match at Blundstone Arena within three days.
Australia won by an innings and 212 runs to take a 1-0 lead in the Frank Worrell Trophy Series.
Scores: Australia 583-4 declared; West Indies 223 and 148. For West Indies Darren Bravo scored a well-compiled century in the first innings while Kraigg Brathwaite fell six runs short of a century in the second innings.
Bravo made 108 – his seventh Test century and sixth outside from the Caribbean. He faced 177 balls and hit 20 fours.
He fell just short of the highest score by a West Indian at the ground — his older brother Dwayne Bravo made 113 against the Australians 10 years ago.
Brathwaite made a stroke-filled 94 before he was last man out. The 23-year-old opener faced 122 balls and hit 13 fours and a six.
The Man-of-the-Match award went to Adam Voges, who made 269 not out in Australia's innings. He shared a record fourth-wicket stand of 449 with Shaun Marsh, who made 182.
