Windies beat England

MUMBAI, India – Chris Gayle scored the fastest century in ICC World T20 tournament history as West Indies started their campaign with a sensational six-wicket win over England on Wednesday night.

The powerful left-hander reached triple figures off just 47 balls in a brilliant display of power-hitting at the Wankhede Stadium.

He ended on 100 not out – including 11 sixes and five boundaries as West Indies reached 183-4 off 18.1 overs in reply to England's 182-6 off 20 overs .

Gayle shared two vital partnerships en route to earning the Man-of-the-Match award.

He added 55 for the second with Marlon Samuels – who played some stunning shots in 37 off 27 balls.

Gayle then added an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 70 off 35 balls with Andre Russell (12 not out).

It was Gayle's 17th T20 century – the most by any batsman. He is also the first man to score two centuries in the World T20 tournament – his first came against South Africa at the Wanderers in 2007.
